Eric Gryba (born April 14, 1988 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The defender played a total of over 300 games for the Ottawa Senators , Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League .
Career
Gryba was initially active from 2003 to 2005 for the Saskatoon Contacts from the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League . In the 2005/06 season he was on the ice for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League , before the defender began studying at Boston University and for their ice hockey team, the Boston University Terriers , in who ran up Hockey East . The defender had previously been selected by the Ottawa Senators in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 68th position . In the 2008/09 season he won both the Hockey East championship and the NCAA Division I Championship with the team . In his last season in the university team, the 2009/10 season, the right-handed shooter ran on the ice together with Nick Bonino as assistant captain.
In March 2010, the Canadians signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators and made his debut in the same season for the AHL - farm team , the Binghamton Senators , on a professional level. The following 2010/11 season he won the Calder Cup with Binghamton . Since the beginning of the 2013/14 season , Gryba was used exclusively in the NHL. In June 2015, he was hired by the Edmonton Oilers , who in turn gave the Senators a four-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and the young talent Travis Ewanyk . Gryba remained in the Edmonton franchise for three years before, after 117 appearances for the team in June 2018 , he was put on the waiver according to the regulations in order to be able to pay him the last year of his contract.
Then Gryba joined the New Jersey Devils as a free agent in July 2018 . There he was mainly used for the Binghamton Devils in the AHL and then announced the end of his active career in September 2019. Including the playoffs, he had played 302 NHL games.
