Eckart Modrow
Eckart Modrow (born February 18, 1948 ) is a German educator and non-fiction and textbook author.
Modrow was a teacher of mathematics , physics and computer science at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium in Göttingen and is the author of numerous specialist works on computer science and didactics of computer science lessons. In 2003 he received his doctorate in computer science didactics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg under Wilfried Herget . Since December 2005 he has also been honorary professor for computer science at the Georg-August University in Göttingen .
Use of graphic programming languages in teaching
In recent times, Eckart Modrow has been campaigning for the use of educational visual programming languages in teaching. The advantages and increasing popularity of the Scratch programming language designed for children have attracted worldwide attention from IT educationalists to its further development BYOB / Snap! triggered as this is also suitable for advanced computer science classes. Eckart Modrow recognized this potential early on and carried by scholarly articles, a lecture notes, lectures and teacher training to the fact that the German computer science education from BYOB / Snap! can benefit. In 2013 BYOB was used for the first time in German Abitur exams.

- Wilhelm Schickard Prize (Computer Science) from the German Association for the Promotion of Mathematics and Science Education (MNU) in 2003
- Prize of the Lower Saxony Metal Foundation in 2007 for initiating a school experiment in computer science, "representing the many outstanding work by Dr. Modrow"
- Honorary RW Pohl Medal of the Faculty of Physics at the Georg-August University of Göttingen in the 2015/2016 winter semester for year-long commitment to the introduction to programming in the natural sciences
