Eckarts is a parish village and district in Immenstadt im Allgäu in the Oberallgäu district . The formerly independent municipality was incorporated into Immenstadt im Allgäu on January 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform . The community lies at an altitude of 757 m.

Werdenstein ruins

In addition to the village of Eckarts, Werdenstein and the hamlets of Dietzen, Lachen, Thanners and Zellers also belonged to the former political community of Eckarts . The three last-mentioned settlements as well as the village of Seifen ( belonging to Stein ) and the farms "im Gießen" bore the collective name Dingenschwang until the 18th century . Until 1785, the inhabitants of these places, with the exception of Seifen and Gießen (belonging to Stein), were under the body, land or feudal rule of the Lords of Werdenstein at Werdenstein Castle . Parts of estates, fields, meadows and forests were also given to fiefdoms from the House of Austria , the Kempten Monastery and the Augsburg Monastery .

Parish of Eckarts

As the founder of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul , Georg d. Ä. von Werdenstein (1425–1475). The nave is likely from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century, the tower is of late Gothic design. The crypt of the Lords of Werdenstein lies under the choir .
