Eckehard Deegen

Eckehard Deegen (born September 11, 1941 in Bad Köstritz ; † December 15, 2009 ) was a German veterinarian .

Life

Eckehard Deegen studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) and at the University of Vienna from 1961 to 1966 . In 1966 he put his state examination and was 1967 in Hanover for Dr. med. vet. PhD and approved . He then became a scientific assistant, from 1971 a senior assistant at the Clinic for Horses at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hanover. With a thesis on the cardiology of the horse's heart , he completed his habilitation in 1976. In 1978 he was appointed head of department at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover and professor of internal medicine in the Clinic of the Horse. In 1987 he was appointed university professor and director of the horse clinic.

Deegen has published over 200 scientific papers and initiated and / or supervised over 100 dissertations. He was the editor of the specialist journal “Tierärztliche Praxis” and co-editor of the standard work “Equine Medicine”. He was a member of numerous national and international interest groups, including deputy director of the German Veterinary Society.

He has held numerous visiting lectureships and professorships; the Academia Polonica in Wroclaw honored him with an honorary doctorate in 1998.
