Economic and Financial Council

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Council for Economic and Financial Affairs (officially Council for Economic and Financial Affairs ; abbreviation ECOFIN or EcoFin ; colloquially also known as Ecofin Council or EU Finance Council ; English Economic and Financial Affairs Council ) is a formation of the Council of the European Union in the composition of the economic sector - or finance ministers of the EU member states .

The ECOFIN meets once a month. The day before its meeting, the Eurogroup meets only the ministers of those Member States that have adopted the euro as their currency.

The ECOFIN should not be confused with the alternative Ecofin , an annual civil society congress that has been held since 2006 , which claims to develop possibilities for a “more democratic, social and ecological economic policy” in the EU.
