Ecuadorian-Belarusian relations

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The beginnings of the Ecuadorian-Belarusian relations go back to 1993.

history

On September 5, 1993, the governments of Aljaksandr Lukashenka and Sixto Durán Ballén established diplomatic relations. In 1997, two years after the Cenepa War , Aljaksandr Lukashenka sold eighteen Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 fighter jets to the Peruvian government under Alberto Fujimori , the former opponent of the war and direct neighbor of Ecuador .

During the reign of Rafael Correa (January 15, 2007 to May 24, 2017), the political boom of the two governments experienced a climax, which led to the mutual establishment of embassies. Economically, a cooperation in the area of the production of construction equipment was considered. The two governments signed an agreement in Quito on June 20, 2014 , which established the regulation of the reciprocal travel regime. It was ratified by Belarusian law on December 29, 2014. In 2014 Belarus opened an embassy in Quito. The Ecuadorian ambassador in Moscow is also accredited in Minsk . From September 19, 2014 to September 5, 2018, the Ecuadorian ambassador was based in Minsk.

Since Lenín Moreno's tenure as President of Ecuador began in 2017, the maintenance of embassies has been limited to states that appear in the trade balance .
