Edward Liddie

Edward "Ed" Liddie (born July 1959 ) is a former American judoka . He was an Olympic Knight in 1984.

The 1.72 m tall Liddie fought in the ultra-light, the weight class up to 60 kilograms. He won the silver medal behind Brazilian Luis Shinohara at the 1979 Pan American Games . In the next few years he was mostly only at tournaments in the USA. In 1983 he entered the World Championships in Moscow and took fifth place. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Liddie defeated the German Peter Jupke in the quarterfinals , and in the semifinals he was defeated by the South Korean Kim Jae-yup . In the battle for the bronze medal, he won against the French Guy Delvingt .

Four years later, Kevin Asano competed in the Olympic Games, to which Liddie lost at the 1987 US Open. In 1989 Liddie took part in the World Championships in Belgrade and, like 1983, finished fifth. In 1991 he was seventh at the World Championships in Barcelona and won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games . In 1992 Liddie won the US trials against Tony Okada , but Okada took part in the Olympics anyway.

After his playing career, Liddie became a coach at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He looked after Olympic and Paralympic participants for over two decades.
