Eddie Kaye

Edwin Richard "Eddie" Kaye (born December 28, 1926 - † May 2, 2013 in Fort Myers ) was an American jazz saxophonist.

Kaye began playing the tenor saxophone when she was 13. After moving to Buffalo , he attended Riverside High School, where he was a member of the school band. In the following years he worked as a professional jazz musician in the Buffalo area; his stylistic role models included Lester Young and Ben Webster , with whom he was friends. Kaye performed in local clubs like Town Casino, Crystal Beach Ballroom, and Copa Casino where he was the head of house bands. With his Copa band he accompanied guest jazz stars such as Ella Fitzgerald , Gerry Mulligan , Mel Tormé , Dizzy Gillespie , Sarah Vaughan , Carmen McRae and Peggy Lee . As one of the first white musicians, he was given the opportunity to perform in the Buffalo Colored Musicians Club . In the early 1950s he recorded under his own name for Mercury Records with Dodo Greene and Ducky Rice . In 1999 Kaye moved to Fort Myers, where he died in early May 2013 at the age of 86.

The musician should not be confused with the actor Eddie Kaye Thomas .
