Eddie Kirkland

Eddie Kirkland (born August 16, 1923 in Jamaica , † February 27, 2011 in Crystal River , Florida ) was an African American blues musician .

As a singer, harmonica player and guitarist, he was a representative of the electric blues genre . From 1949 to 1962 he was manager and accompanist for John Lee Hooker ; he can be heard as the second guitarist on many of his recordings from this period. In 1962 and 1963 he was guitarist and band leader for Otis Redding . In the second half of the 1960s he worked as a car mechanic. From 1970 he was rediscovered as a blues musician. Until his death he toured almost continuously and released numerous recordings. Eddie Kirkland died in a car accident in Florida at the age of 87.
