Crystal River is a city in Citrus County in the US state of Florida with 3108 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Crystal River is located around 20 km west of Inverness and 110 km north of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico .

religion

Crystal River currently has 18 different churches from eight different denominations, of which the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with five churches. There are two churches that do not belong to any denomination (status: 2004).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 3,108 inhabitants were distributed over 2,036 households. The population density was 210 inhabitants / km². 87.2% of the population identified themselves as whites , 7.6% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 2.1% as Asian Americans . 1.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 5.2% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010, children under the age of 18 lived in 18.0% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 45.7% of all households. 56.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.06 people and the average family size was 2.61 people.

15.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 14.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 42.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 55 years. 47.5% of the population were male and 52.5% were female.

The median annual income was $ 40,156, with 4.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 98.71% of the population and 1.29% spoke Spanish .

Attractions

The Crystal River Indian Mounds , Crystal River Old City Hall, and Mullet Key Island are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Nuclear power plant

About ten kilometers northwest of the city is a power plant complex with four coal blocks and one reactor block, the Crystal River nuclear power plant .

Crystal River is crossed by US Highways 19 and 98 and Florida State Road 44 . The Tampa airport is around 120 km away.

The crime rate in 2010 was 456 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There was one rape, five robberies, 27 assaults, 32 break-ins, 191 thefts and four car thefts.
