Homosassa is a census-designated place (CDP) in Citrus County in the US state of Florida with 2578 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Homosassa is affected by the US Highways 19 ( Florida State Route 55 ) and 98 on a common route. The CDP is located about 25 km west of Inverness and about 100 km north of Tampa .
history
In 1888, the Savannah, Florida and Western Railroad opened an extension of the railway line built the previous year from Ocala to Dunnellon .

In Homosassa there are currently 24 different churches from 12 different denominations, of which the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with 7 churches. There are 4 churches that do not belong to any denomination (status: 2004).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 2578 inhabitants were distributed over 1936 households. The population density was 125.1 inh / km². 97.6% of the population identified themselves as white , 0.4% as African-American , 0.4% as Native American and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 0.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 1.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 52.9% of all households lived in 13.0% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 62.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.01 people and the average family size was 2.43 people.
11.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 9.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 51.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 61 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.
