Inverness is a city and also the county seat of Citrus County in the US state of Florida with 7210 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Inverness is about 100 km north of Tampa .
history
In the 1880s, the route of the Inverness and Brooksville Railway from Dade City via Inverness to Citrus Springs was opened. This route was closed in 1987 and later converted into the Withlacoochee State Trail . In 1891 the Savannah, Florida and Western Railroad opened a route from here via Hernando and Dunnellon to Ocala .
Religions
In Inverness there are currently 20 different churches from 10 different denominations, of which the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with 6 churches. There is also a church that does not belong to any denomination (status: 2004).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 7,210 inhabitants were distributed among 3,974 households. The population density was 381.5 inh / km². 88.2% of the population identified themselves as whites , 5.9% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 1.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 6.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 49.8% of all households lived in 20.5% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 51.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.01 people and the average family size was 2.69 people.
18.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 17.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 42.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 53 years. 44.2% of the population were male and 55.8% were female.
The median annual income was $ 27,515, with 18.5% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.84% of the population, 3.98% spoke Spanish and 2.18% had another mother tongue.
