Citrus Springs is a census-designated place (CDP) in Citrus County in the US state of Florida with 8,622 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Citrus Springs is about 20 km northwest of Inverness and about 140 km north of Tampa . The CDP is crossed by US Highway 41 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,622 inhabitants were distributed over 4,017 households. The population density was 156.5 inh / km². 88.9% of the population identified themselves as whites , 5.1% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 1.5% as Asian Americans . 1.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.4% to several ethnic groups. 9.3% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 32.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 38.1% of all households. 73.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.50 people and the average family size was 2.86 people.

25.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 28.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 47.9% of the population were male and 52.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 45,679, with 16.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.33% of the population, 4.90% spoke Spanish and 0.77% spoke German .
