Edendale is a place in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal in close proximity to Pietermaritzburg . It belongs to the Msunduzi community in the uMgungundlovu district . Edendale is located at an altitude of 922 meters above sea level. In 2011 Edendale had 140,891 residents.
Until 1850 the settlement was called Werverdien Farm . It belonged to Andries Pretorius , one of the leaders of the Great Trek . The Methodist Church bought the settlement around 1845 .
