The Edfu project was a long-term Egyptological project founded by Dieter Kurth in 1986 with the aim of creating a reliable overall translation of the ancient Egyptian inscriptions of the Temple of Edfu in Upper Egypt . Until 2002 the project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Later it was located at the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen . The project was based in Hamburg . The project manager was Dieter Kurth, the job manager was Wolfgang Waitkus, the scientific staff were Andreas Effland, Jan-Peter Graeff, Susanne Martinssen-von Falck, Ruth Brech, André Block.

The funding of the project by the Göttingen Academy of Sciences ended in 2017. Funding at the Academy of Sciences came from the federal and state academies program . Since then, the translations have been carried out by Dieter Kurth alone.

A project started in Würzburg in 2018 for the comparative investigation of wall reliefs in the temple is in no way related to the Edfu project.
