Dieter Kurth (Egyptologist)

Dieter Kurth (born March 26, 1942 in Bucharest ) is a German Egyptologist .

Life

After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1975 and his habilitation in 1980 in Cologne , he received a Heisenberg grant in 1982. From 1982 to 2007 he taught as a professor at the University of Hamburg and from 1986 to 2017 headed the Edfu project in the program of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen . The aim of the project was to create a reliable complete translation of the ancient Egyptian inscriptions of the Temple of Edfu in Upper Egypt .
