Edgar Bain

Edgar Collins Bain ( September 14, 1891 - November 27, 1971 ) was an American metallurgist and a member of the National Academy of Sciences .

He worked for the US Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh ( Pennsylvania ) and did research in the field of alloying and heat treatment of steels . The structure of bainite is named after him. In 1923 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .
