Edgar Zell Steever

Edgar Zell Steever IV (born January 27, 1915 in Pittsfield , Massachusetts , † November 26, 2006 in New London , Connecticut ) was an American sculptor and medalist . His signature is EZS .

He graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in art history in 1936 . He then continued his training as a sculptor at the Yale School of Fine Arts , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1938 and his master's degree in 1940 .

Steever received several grants and awards for sculpture. He later taught sculpture and was from 1964 Senior Sculptor-Engraver at the United States Mint in Philadelphia. There he worked as a designer for coins and medals until his retirement in 2002. He designed a variety of medals and coins, including some foreign coins.

Most recently he lived in Mystic , Connecticut and died in New London, Connecticut on November 26, 2006.
