Edgard Leuenroth (born October 31, 1881 in Mogi Mirim , † September 29, 1968 in São Paulo ) was a printer, journalist, activist and one of the most famous Brazilian anarchists of the time, in the era of the " República Velha " ("The old republic" ) (1889-1930). He was arrested several times for his political involvement. Leuenroth was a journalist and, from 1909 to 1916, director of the anti-clerical newspaper "A Lanterna" ("The Torch"), whose publication was resumed in 1933. He also founded the newspaper "A Plebe" ("The Plebs"), a major organ of the anarchist press and with a strong response from the working class in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro . In 1917 he was convicted of promoting the " Greve de 1917 " (strike of 1917).

After his death, his family donated his large collection of press articles to the Institute of Philosophy, History and Sociology ( Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas ) of the State University of Campinas ( Universidade Estadual de Campinas ); this founded the Edgard Leuenroth Archive ( Arquivo Edgard Leuenroth ), one of the most important sources for Brazilian social movements of the 20th century.
