The Johnny Cash Show was an American music show presented by Johnny Cash and broadcast on American television on ABC from 1969 to 1971 .

On June 7, 1969, The Johnny Cash Show premiered on the US broadcaster ABC . The television program, recorded in the Ryman Auditorium , was broadcast every Saturday night at prime time. Guests in the first edition included Bob Dylan , whom Cash had been friends with since they were neighbors in New York in the late 1960s, and Joni Mitchell .

Guest musician

Cash helped the Statler Brothers careers by hiring them as the show's house band. Other famous guests included Neil Young , The Monkees , Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles as well as many greats from the country scene such as Carl Perkins , The Carter Family and Hank Williams Jr. Singer and songwriter Kris Kristofferson also became popular through an appearance on Cash's Show . The show ran successfully until 1971.

Publications

In 1970 an LP was released with live recordings from the show. A best of the show was released on DVD in September 2007; in March 2008 a best of CD was released.
