The Edipresse Groupe SA is a Swiss media company based in Lausanne . Edipresse publishes over 180 magazines in 13 countries. In 2010/2011 Edipresse ceded its Swiss media activities to the Zurich media company Tamedia and has since concentrated on the international media business, in which the group has been active since 1990. Other important business areas are real estate, especially in French-speaking Switzerland, and internet portals.

history

Edipresse's predecessor was the Société de la Feuille d'Avis de , founded at the end of 1906 by Paul Allenspach, head of the Feuille d'Avis de Lausanne (founded 1762, since 1972 24 heures ), and the print shop owners Charles Viret-Genton and Jules Corba Lausanne et des Imprimeries Réunies SA », which published the two newspapers La Feuille d'Avis de Lausanne and La Tribune de Lausanne (founded in 1893) and was owned by a printing company. In 1910 the printer and publisher Georges-Antoine Bridel joined them. In 1911 the company acquired the Tribune de Lausanne (since 1984 Le Matin ). In 1925 it was bought by «Lousonna SA», founded by Publicitas board members Charles Patru, Jacques Lamunière and Samuel Payot. In 1937, the Lamunière and Payot families jointly took control of the company. In 1982 the Lamunière family took over part of the Lousonna press company under the name Edipresse SA. From then on, the company concentrated on the publication of newspapers and magazines as well as graphic work. The following years were characterized by expansion abroad, especially in Eastern and Southern Europe, and from 2005 also in Asia. In 2010/2011 Edipresse parted with its Swiss media activities. In 2011 Edipresse withdrew from the stock exchange and has been a family company ever since, owned by the Lamunière family.

Media Switzerland

On March 3, 2009, Edipresse and Tamedia announced that Tamedia would gradually take over Edipresse's Swiss media activities (including Le Matin , Tribune de Genève , 24 heures , Bilan , La Broye, Journal de Morges ). The Swiss Competition Commission approved the merger in the same year. In 2010 Tamedia acquired a 49.9% stake in the Edipresse subsidiary “Presse Publications SR SA” (PPSR), in which most of Edipresse's Swiss activities were bundled. At the beginning of 2011 Tamedia took over another 0.2% and thus the majority of PPSR. Tamedia paid CHF 207.3 million for the 50.1% . The takeover of the remainder of 49.9% planned for 2013 was brought forward to 2011. The price was made dependent on the economic development of the company and amounted to CHF 324.1 million in cash and 250,000 registered shares in Tamedia with a value of CHF 31 million. Edipresse granted Tamedia the right to use the brand name "Edipresse Suisse" until the end of 2012. At the end of 2011, Tamedia renamed its media activities in western Switzerland to “Tamedia Publications romandes” and in 2012 the “Edipresse Publications SA” that it had taken over into “Tamedia Publications romandes SA”, which then took over PPSR in mid-2013.

Edipresse Groupe operates in Geneva together with Brice Lechevalier in a joint venture in “GMT Publishing”, founded in 2002, which publishes the magazines GMT, Mountain Addict Gstaad, Skippers, voile & océan and Société Nautique de Genève .
