Edith Ingeborg Schippers (born August 25, 1964 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch politician of the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD). From 2010 to 2017 she headed the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

Schippers studied political science at the University of Leiden and worked from 1993 to 1997 as a member of the VVD parliamentary group in the Second Chamber of the States General . Then she was secretary at the employers' association VNO-NCW until 2003 . In addition, she was secretary to the main board of the VVD from 2000 to 2002. On June 3, 2003, Schippers became a member of the Second Chamber. She was a parliamentarian until she became a minister in autumn 2010, and again shortly after the election in September 2012, before the new government was sworn in. From 2010 to 2017 Schippers was Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport in the Rutte I and Rutte II cabinets .

In 2017, she announced her retirement from politics: She did not run for the parliamentary election in March and was also not available as a minister.
