Hugo Mattheüs de Jonge (* 26. September 1977 in Bruinisse ) is a Dutch politician of the CDA . Since October 2017 he has been Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport and Deputy Prime Minister in the Rutte III cabinet .

career

De Jonge began his career in 1999 as a teacher at the CBS de Akker primary school in Rotterdam . In 2000 he became vice principal of the Da Costa School in Rotterdam.

In 2004 he took over the position of advisor in the parliamentary group of the Christian Democratic Party CDA in the Second Chamber of the States General . In 2006 de Jonge became political assistant to Minister Maria van der Hoeven and then to State Secretary Marja van Bijsterveldt in the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and in 2008 also temporarily to Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende in the Ministry of General Affairs . From 2008 to 2010 he worked in the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science as a project manager and program manager.

In 2010 de Jonge became the Rotterdam councilor for education, youth and family, and since 2014 for education, youth and health.

De Jonge was appointed Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport and Deputy Prime Minister in the third Rutte cabinet on October 26, 2017 .

Secondary offices

As an alderman, De Jonge held various secondary offices related to this function. Among other things, he was chairman of the board of the youth welfare work group and the work group of health authorities in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region as well as a member of the health and public welfare committee of the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG), the education council and the task force against child abuse and sexual abuse.

Private

De Jonge is a member of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands , is married and has two children.
