Marja van Bijsterveldt

Janneke Marlene (Marja) van Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart (born June 27, 1961 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appèl (CDA). From October 2010 to November 2012 she was Minister for Education, Culture and Science in the Rutte I cabinet . She has been the mayor of Delft since September 2016 .

Life

From February 22, 2007 to October 14, 2010 she was State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science in the Balkenende IV cabinet and from June 17, 2010 to October 14, 2010 she was also a member of the Second Chamber of the States General . From 1990 to 1993 she was alderman of Almere and from 1994 to 2003 mayor of Schipluiden , a former municipality in the province of South Holland since 2004 . She was also party chairman of the CDA from 2002 to 2007 as the successor to Bert de Vries .
