Pietro Fenoglio (* 1865 in Turin ; † 22. August 1927 in Corio ) was an Italian architect of the Art Nouveau .

Life

Fenoglio finished his studies at the Turin Polytechnic with Carlo Ceppi in 1886 as an engineer , then initially had a job with Brayda, Boggio and Reyend and went into business in 1889. With the boom in Italian industry at the end of the 19th century, so did his career.

Its early buildings are often reminiscent of Piedmont's medieval building tradition . This phase includes the factory building for Michele Ansaldi in Via Modena from 1899 and the Villino della Società Finanziaria Industriale from 1900 in Via Beaumont in Fenoglio's hometown of Turin. The Casa Besozzi from 1904 on Corso Siccardi is reminiscent of an early Renaissance palazzo; the Fabrica Termotecnica e Mecanica in Via Mongrando is characterized by its functionality, especially by its light interior. This eclectic phase was followed by a creative period from 1900 to 1907 that was committed to Art Nouveau.

In 1902 Fenoglio was a member of the committee of the Prima Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte Decorativa Moderna in Turin. From then on, at the latest, he was very popular as an architect. In the first decade of the 20th century, over 100 buildings were built according to his plans, including his own house " La Fleur " ( so named in memory of Giorgio Lafleur ) on the corner of Corso Francia and Via Principi d'Acaja from 1902/03 which shows naturalistic elements such as works by Victor Horta and Hector Guimard . It has art nouveau features that are also found in numerous other buildings Fenoglio, the curved window arches and the floral pattern of the balcony railing, and is regarded as a representative of "momento magico" From the same period comes around the Villa Scott in 1902 in Corso Giovanni Lanza 57. The interior of the building is in Neo-Rococo style. Casa La Fleur and Villa Scott are considered masterpieces of Italian Art Nouveau. The Villa Raby on Corso Francia 8 and the Istituto Beneficenza Denis from 1907 still show elements of Art Nouveau.

In his last creative phase as an architect, up to around 1912, Fenoglio created more baroque buildings, after which he finished his work in this field.

In 1911 he became a member of the technical committee for the Esposizione Internazionale dell'Industria e del Lavoro , 1912 manager of the Banca Commerciale Italiana , 1913 director of the Società Commerciale d'Oriente , finally from 1917 to 1920 general director of the Banca Commerciale Italiana. In this capacity he advocated Marcello Piacentini's design for the bank's office in Rome and rejected Luca Beltrami's proposal.

Others

In Fenoglio's building on Via Sacchi 40–42 there is a confectionery shop that was originally run by Gustavo Pfati and is now one of the traditional Italian restaurants known as “locali storici”.
