Luca Beltrami

Luca Beltrami (born November 13, 1854 in Milan , † August 8, 1933 in Rome ) was an Italian architect and art historian . He was one of the first architects to specialize in the restoration of historical buildings. Forward-looking was his approach of subjecting the buildings to be restored to a historical and architectural analysis and also taking their “context” into account.

Life

After studying at the Politecnico di Milano , which he graduated in 1875 and where he became close friends with Luigi Conconi (1852-1917), he went to Paris for three years , where he was influenced by Charles Garnier and the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts frequented. He found the opportunity to do engravings of buildings in France: he was able to show a picture of the cathedral St-Trophime d'Arles several times at exhibitions.

From 1914 he was a member of the Accademia della Crusca in Florence .

Beltrami was buried on the Cimitero Monumentale in Milan.
