Carlo Ceppi (born October 11, 1829 in Turin ; † November 9, 1921 there ) was an Italian architect.

Life

Ceppi graduated from Carlo Promis in 1851. In addition to architecture, hydraulics was his specialty. He first worked with Severine Grattoni . In 1857 he became an assistant professor at the military academy. When in 1861 a competition for a new facade design for the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence was held, he took part. He was among the winners, but did not pursue his plans when a second competition was advertised, but instead devoted himself to developments in Turin. From 1861 he was with Alessandro Mazzucchettiinvolved in the design of the Stazione di Porta Nuova Centrale, which was completed in 1868. In 1878 he built the Palazzo Ceriana in Piazza Solferino. In 1880/81 he was involved in the expansion of the famous Cimitero monumentale di Torino cemetery , in 1887 he built an eclectic palazzo for Teresa Racca, which is now known as Palazzo Ceppi . He planned the monument for Teresa Denina Sinco together with Odoardo Tabacchieri in 1890/91. In 1892 he created the Palazzo Bellia . Ceppi also created structures such as the Fontana dei dodici mesi, a fountain that was decorated with allegorical figures of the twelve months. Ceppi's buildings were represented at the Esposizione generale italiana 1898 in Turin and at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 .

For a year - from 1869 to 1870 - he taught architecture at the engineering school, and from 1893 he held a professorship for architecture. While Ceppi himself was still committed to the English Neo-Gothic , his pupil Pietro Fenoglio became a main representative of Art Nouveau in Italy.

In Turin a street is named after Ceppi.
