Edmond Eggli

Edmond Eggli (born April 26, 1881 in Lyon , † 1956 in Paris ) was a French Romance studies and long-standing university professor in England.

life and work

Eggli studied with Gustave Lanson at the École normal supérieure and with Fernand Baldensperger at the Sorbonne. He was first a high school teacher in Paris and in 1913 taught at the University of Lyon. He completed his habilitation in Strasbourg with Adolphe Terracher with the two theses Schiller et le romantisme français (2 vols., Paris 1927, Geneva 1970) and L '"Erotique comparée" de Charles de Villers, 1806 (Paris 1927) and taught as successor to Adolphe Terracher at the University of Liverpool from 1920 to 1946 .
