Edmond Levy

Edmond Levy (born September 26, 1929 in Toronto , Canada , † October 10, 1998 in Manhattan , New York City ) was a Canadian - American film director , screenwriter and film producer who was awarded an Oscar in 1967 .

biography

His entry into the film business was Levy in 1965 in an episode of the US sitcom Katy ; Inger Stevens was cast in the title role . In the same year he also took over the direction of two episodes of the documentary television series America's Crises . In 1966 Levy produced the documentary short film A Year Toward Tomorrow , which deals with the AmeriCorps VISTA program, a national service program for the alleviation of poverty. In 1967 he was awarded an Oscar for the film in the category “Best Documentary Short Film” .

Levy wrote the screenplay in 1968 for the French television series Adventure on the Red Sea about the French naval officer and adventurer Henry de Monfreid ( Pierre Massimi ) at the beginning of the 20th century. The entire series was shot in Iran. As his last directorial work, the director is listed in the television film Die Chaotin und der Wolfmann from 1980. In the 1986 film Thérèse by Alain Cavalier , he played a cardinal.

In 1994, his book Making a Winning Short: How to write, direct, edit, and produce a short film was published (How do I write, direct, edit and produce a short film ).

Edmond Levy died in Manhattan in October 1998 at the age of 69.
