Edmund Hill
Edmund Hügel (born December 2, 1841 in Berlin , † December 10, 1908 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian politician ( DnP ) and 17th mayor of St. Pölten.
Life
Edmund Hügel was born in Berlin in 1841 and attended secondary school in Vienna and a preparatory course at the Academy of Fine Arts. Although he wanted to become a painter, his professional life began in 1866 with the Empress Elisabeth Railway , in 1873 he bought the hotel "Zur Kaiserin von Österreich" in St. Pölten's Kremsergasse and settled in the city. In 1900 he sold his hotel and had the "Hügel-Hof" built on Mühlweg according to plans by master builder Johann Zeilinger, where he lived from then on. He did not completely give up painting, so around 1891 he made a life-size painting by Emperor Franz Joseph for the Austro-Hungarian rifle company St. Pölten.
From 1888, Hügel was a member of the local council of St. Pölten, from 1898 he was deputy mayor, he was re-elected in 1900 and in April 1905 in this position. After the resignation of William Voelkl as mayor and a rejection of Eugene of Aichelburg he was elected in November 1905 mayor.
In September 1907, Hügel suffered a stroke from which he did not fully recover. Vice Mayor Otto Eybner did the official business - officially, however, Hügel's term of office lasted until the election in May 1908, for which he no longer ran. He died in December of the same year as a private citizen in St. Pölten.
