Life

Emond von Engelsdorf came from the castle of the same name in today's Engelsdorf district of the municipality of Aldenhoven in the Rhineland. In 1348, when he was still a minor, he inherited these and Gripekoven Castle . Gripekoven was demolished in 1354 as a "robber baron castle".

In 1361, Duke Wilhelm von Jülich , Count von Falkenburg-Montjoie, gave the Engelsdorfer the Nothberg Castle, known as Haus Berge auf der Inde , with berths and other accessories as an open house with reservation of all splendor as a fief. King Wenzel of Luxemburg granted von Engelsdorf the title of Chamber of Commerce in 1384 and made him lord of Reuland Castle . The Lords of Reuland retained this dignity until the dissolution of the Ancien Regime (1795). In addition he received from Wenzel Hof and Meierei zu Hoffelt as well as the villages of Ober- and Niederbesslang.

Duke Wilhelm von Jülich gave him the castle and lordship of Wildenburg as a fief on August 1, 1385 .
