Edoardo Mascheroni (born September 4, 1852 in Milan , † March 4, 1941 in Ghirla ) was an Italian conductor and composer .

Life

Mascheroni initially embarked on a career as a writer and worked for the Ricordi music publisher . He also took conducting lessons from Raimondo Boucheron , the director of the Municipal Orchestra of Milan. In 1880 he made his debut as an opera conductor in Brescia. From 1884 to 1885 he was conductor at the Teatro Argentina in Rome, where he introduced the Viennese tuning for the orchestra, which led the first performance of Beethoven's Fidelio . From 1892 to 1895 he was a conductor at La Scala in Milan . Here he directed the world premiere of Catalanis La Wally and - at the request of the composer - Verdi's Falstaff , as well as several premieres of Richard Wagner's operas . He has appeared as a guest conductor in Germany, Spain and South America. Mascheroni composed two operas himself: Lorenza (for the singer Gemma Bellincioni ) and La Perugina , as well as instrumental works and church music.
