Eduard Achelis

Eduard Alfred Achelis (born May 3, 1864 in Bremen ; † August 28, 1939 there ) was a German wholesale merchant. He was part owner of the company Johann Achelis und Sons in Bremen and a member of the Bremen citizenship .

Life

Achelis comes from a family of tanners, merchants and scholars who immigrated to Bremen from Rostock in the 17th century . His parents were Johannes Christoph Achelis and Laura Alwina née Krummacher. His grandfather was the merchant and vice-consul Johann Achelis (1799–1869).

After attending school and traveling to America, he became an authorized signatory in 1890 and a partner in the family company two years later. In 1904 he became a member of the Bremen citizenship and in 1916 he was present at the Bremen Chamber of Commerce .

He was chairman of the Bremen department of the German Colonial Society and as such was the first speaker in 1932 at the inauguration of the Reich Colonial Honorary Monument (today anti-colonial monument ) in Bremen.

In 1914 he had his house at Mathildenstrasse 79 in Bremen remodeled by the architect Carl Eeg .
