Eduard Basta

Eduard Basta , actually Eduard Pollak ( July 1, 1845 in Smichow , today in Prague - June 4, 1879 in Hamburg ) was a German opera singer (tenor).

Life

Basta came from a Jewish family in Prague and was a synagogue singer at first , but later went to the stage. From 1871 to 1873 he was engaged in Hamburg, where he mainly appeared in operettas. From 1873 to 1874 he was at the Stadttheater Kiel, from 1874 to 1875 again in Hamburg (opera house). In 1875 he was in Berlin at the Kroll Summer Opera, then until 1876 at the Cologne Opera House. In 1876 he went to Hamburg for the third time, again at the Stadttheater as tenor buffo. He died in 1879 at the age of only 33.

He was married to Marie Basta , his sister was Julie Basta , both opera singers.
