Eduard Cassirer

Eduard Cassirer (born March 13, 1843 in Schwientochlowitz ; died June 2, 1916 in Charlottenburg ) was a German industrialist who, together with his brothers, was active as a timber merchant in Breslau and Berlin, among other things.

Life

Eduard Cassirer was the third of ten children of Marcus Cassirer (1809–1879) and his wife Jeannette, née Steinitz (1813–1889). He was born in Schwientochlowitz, today Świętochłowice , in 1843 . He married Eugenie (Jenny) Cassirer (1848-1904), the daughter of his uncle Siegfried, and had a total of seven children with her, including the later philosopher Ernst Cassirer (1874-1945) and Hedwig Cassirer (1873-1948), the future wife of the neurologist Richard Cassirer (1868-1925).

Eduard Cassirer founded and managed the Cassirer Söhne lumber business in 1872 , marking the beginning of the actual rise of the Cassirer family. Two years later he moved the company within Breslau from Brüderstraße 9 to Vorwerkstraße 59, where he made his brother Salo Cassirer a partner. When his brothers Julius and Louis set up the Cassirer Brothers construction and natural wood business in Berlin at the beginning of the 1880s , he also went to Berlin with Salo. The wood trade in Breslau was run by his two sons as a steam sawmill and wood trade Cassirer sons Martin and Ludwig until 1929 and then closed. Together with Eduard Tillgner and Salo, he founded the sulfite cellulose factory Tillgner & Co in Ziegenhals / Głuchołazy in Silesia in 1885 . Also Isidor and Max settled in the then independent Charlottenburg down in Berlin. In 1899 the brothers founded the Włocławeker sulphite cellulose factory J. & M. Cassirer in Włocławek , Poland , which was managed by Max Cassirer.
