Eduard Gargitter

Eduard Gargitter (born June 2, 1928 in Monza ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and electrician. From 1979 to 1990 he was a member of the Federal Council and from 1973 to 1979 a local council in Linz .

education and profession

Gargitter attended elementary school in Calvisano from 1934 to 1939 and then moved with his family to Upper Austria . He then continued his school attendance from 1940 to 1941 at the elementary school in Stadl-Paura . He then switched to school at the secondary school in Lambach from 1941 to 1944 and was then drafted into military service from 1945, where he was deployed for half a year as an air force helper and also in the Reich Labor Service during the Second World War . He then learned the profession of electrical installer and attended vocational school from 1947 to 1950. Subsequently, Gargitter was employed as a cooling system mechanic from 1950 to 1955. In 1955 he switched to the service of Chemie AG Linz , where he worked as a measuring and control mechanic until 1964 and completed the foreman evening course for electrical engineering between 1957 and 1959. From 1964 he was released as a works council, in December 1989 he left the company and retired.

Politics and functions

From 1966 Gargitter became involved as the works council chairman of the Chemie Linz AG and in the same year took over the function of the deputy central works council chairman of the Chemie Linz AG. In 1968 he rose to become a member of the central board of the chemical workers' union and was subsequently also regional chairman of the Upper Austrian chemical workers. Furthermore, he worked from 1977 to 1989 as deputy chairman of the federal executive committee for chemical workers and from 1974 to 1989 was chamber councilor of the chamber for workers and salaried employees for Upper Austria. Gargitter held his first political mandate between 1973 and 1979 as a local councilor in Linz, after which he was a member of the Federal Council from October 25, 1979 to December 11, 1990. After leaving the Federal Council, Gargitter was chairman of the pensioners' association in the Linz-Stadt district from 1991 to 1997.
