history

The Ed. Haas Austria Ges.mbH goes back to the registration of the brand “HASIN for the preparation of health ring cake ” in the kuk brand register in 1915 by Katharina Haas, on behalf of her 18-year-old son Eduard Haas III. He had already started with the production of baking powder, which his grandfather Eduard Haas I once prescribed for him as medicine. His son, Eduard Haas II, founded a general store in the Untergaumberg district of Linz , where, among other things, this flour was available. Since it proved its worth as baking powder for cakes like Gugelhupf , Eduard Haas III., Who had taken over the father's shop, started large-scale production after the brand was registered in 1915.

In 1927 the invention of the peppermint "PEZ" followed, which was advertised as the "luxury mint of the noble world". Two years after the invention of the patented PEZ dispenser (PEZ boxes) in 1950, international markets were opened up, especially the United States. In 1966, 350 million PEZ boxes were sold. At that time, 70% of all Austrian sugar confectionery exports came from PEZ candies. In the 1960s, the US PEZ candy business was sold, but it was bought back in 2006.
