The ChAI-35 ( Russian ХАИ-35 ) was a single-engine, single-seat UL aircraft . It was developed at the Kharkov Aviation Institute (today Kharkiv) by students under the direction of H. Lavrov in a wood / plastic composite construction and flew for the first time in 1981.

It is a stripped high- wing Parasol-type with a conventional tail unit. The motor is located behind the wing and drives a pusher propeller. The chassis consists of a single wheel in the area just before the center of gravity and a grinding spur at the rear. The design of the machine is reminiscent of a motorized variant of the SG 38 school glider . These wear strips to protect the wing tips. In 1986 the machine was modified again and received the designation ChAI-35M . Only one single piece of this aircraft was built.
