The ChAI-9 ( Russian ХАИ-9 ) was an aircraft project at the Kharkiv Aviation Institute . It was started in 1934 and was intended to explore the possibilities for a fast passenger aircraft with even better flight performance than the ChAI-1 . A Mikulin AM 34 engine with an output of 552 kW was provided for this purpose. The curb weight should be 4280 kg, the takeoff weight 7700 kg and the maximum speed 417 km / h. However, it did not come to fruition.
