The Chai-19 ( Russian ХАИ-19 ) is a single-engine, single-seat sport aircraft that was developed, manufactured and flown in 1961 by a group of students at the Kharkiv Aviation Institute under the direction of V. Reshetnikov .
development
Various test flights were carried out in 1962 and 1963, but the performance data were disappointing. Altitudes of only 70 m were reached. It was therefore decided to use conventional aircraft engines to develop a much more powerful model, the ChAI-20 .
construction
The low- wing aircraft , made of wood and covered with cloth , had a non-retractable nose wheel landing gear and an open cockpit. The engine propelled a four-blade propeller through a reduction gear.
