Eduard Meyer (horse breeder)
Eduard Meyer (born February 13, 1885 in Lemgo , Grafschaft Lippe, † January 8, 1965 ibid) was an administrative farmer, animal breeding manager and horse breeder .
Life
Meyer studied agriculture at the University of Halle / Saale and then headed the animal breeding office in Görlitz (then Lower Silesia) from 1911 to 1921. From 1914 he was also the breeding director of the Association of Silesian Warmblood Breeders and from 1917 also of the Association of Silesian Warmblood Breeders . In 1921 Meyer became a consultant for horse breeding at the Chamber of Agriculture in Wroclaw and was entrusted with the management of the Silesian horse studbook. From 1927 to 1934 he worked as an animal breeding manager (as a consultant, later Ministerial and State Economics Council) in the Ministry of Agriculture in Berlin. He then headed the Reich Association for Breeding and Testing of German Draft Horses as managing director until the end of the war.
In 1946 Meyer took over the management of the newly founded Central Association of German Cold Blood Breeding Associations and in 1948 the management of the Association of German Horse Breeders . Most recently, until his age-related retirement in 1950, he was managing director of the Central Association for Breeding and Testing of German Horses in Celle.
Services
Meyer has significantly influenced German horse breeding for over four decades. He particularly promoted the traction tests and expanded the horse performance book . In addition to the organizational work in associations in Silesia and then for Germany, he has published important articles in the field of horse breeding and performance testing.
