Eduard Wollitz

Eduard Wollitz , actually Eduardo Maria Wollitz , (born October 28, 1928 in Hamburg ) is a German opera singer (bass).

Life

Eduard Wollitz received violin and piano lessons from an early age. In singing, he was trained by Bertha Dammann (from 1948) during his studies as a conductor at the Hamburg University of Music (1946). His career began in 1952 at the Landestheater in Darmstadt. In 1957 he received the sponsorship award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists . From Darmstadt he moved to the City Theater of Heidelberg, the Wuppertal Opera House and the Zurich Opera House (1963–65). From 1966 to 1974 he sang the first serious bass at the Wiesbaden State Theater. In addition, but with the same emphasis, he completed numerous concerts as an oratorio singer in Germany, Europe and the USA. In 1974 he took over the professorship for singing at theJohannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he also took over as dean of the music department from 1985 (until 1994). In 2007 he was a lecturer at the Frankfurter Singakademie .

Again and again his paths lead to organ music. In October 2010 he took over the competition management of the International Mainz Organ Competition.

He passed on his collected knowledge through private singing lessons a. a. to Elisabeth Scholl , Christine Esterházy , Erich Pantaleon Bro-Larsen, Paulus Christmann , Frank Segner and his daughter Katharina Wollitz.
