Eduardo Herrera Bueno (born July 5, 1914 in Gijón , † August 15, 1991 in Oviedo ), better known as Herrerita , was a Spanish football player .

His son Jesús Herrera Alonso , or Herrera for short, was also an active football player. He died of cancer in 1962 at the age of only 23.

Career

Herrerita began his professional career in 1929 at the age of 16 with his home club Sporting Gijón , who were playing in the Segunda División at the time. In 1933 he moved to Real Oviedo for the then record fee of 30,000 pesetas , only Real Madrid put down even more for Ricardo Zamora in 1930. He completed his first league game for Oviedo on November 5, 1933 in a 7-3 victory over FC Barcelona , in which he himself scored twice. During his time at Oviedo he was one of the so-called Delanteras Electricas (electric strikers) along with Lángara , Emilín , Casuco and Gallart . The strikers, who were all in their early twenties, were so named because their speed and one-touch football revolutionized the football world of that time. After the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939, Herrerita moved to FC Barcelona. There he scored eight times in 17 league games and was the club's top goalscorer. After a year he went back to his ex-club Real Oviedo, which had just been promoted back to the Primera División . At Oviedo he played first class for the next 10 years until 1950, scoring 84 goals in 156 games during that period. When Oviedo relegated to the second division in 1950, he changed the club one last time and played his last season in 1950/51 again for the second division Sporting Gijón, who rose to the first division at the end of this season.

Herrerita scored a total of 125 first division goals in 230 games, placing him in 35th place on the record scorer list. At Real Oviedo , he is currently still the record scorer.

For the Spanish national team he came on March 18, 1934 in the 2-1 victory over Portugal . By 1947, when he played his last game against Ireland (3-2), he played six times for Spain and scored twice.
