Edward A. Calahan
Edward Augustin Calahan (* 1838 in Boston ; † 12. September 1912 in Brooklyn ) invented in 1863 the Stock Ticker ( Exchange Telegraph ).
Life
Edward Calahan left school at the age of eleven to become a telegraph operator at what would become the Western Union Company and later became chief telegraph operator in the New York office. At the time, messengers ran from the stock exchange to the brokers to convey the latest prices. That inspired him to invent the stock ticker.
