Edward Byers
Edward Byers (born August 4, 1979 in Toledo , Ohio ) is a Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy and Medal of Honor holder.
biography
Edward Byers joined the United States Navy Corps in September 1998. Since 2011 he has been involved in naval operations in Iraq and Afghanistan . On December 5, 2012, American doctor Dilip Joseph was captured by terrorists along with his translator and driver. When the hostages were freed, Nicolas Checkque first entered the building, but was shot dead by the terrorists . Edward Byers was the second to enter the building, protecting Dilip Joseph from gunfire while fighting the terrorists. Edward Byers was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama on February 29, 2016 for his commitment .
