Edward Carrere

Edward Carrere (born October 13, 1906 in Mexico City , † December 19, 1984 in Mission Viejo , California ) was a Mexican - American production designer and production designer .

Life

After studying at private schools in his hometown and at the Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles , Edward Carrere moved from RKO to Warner Bros. in 1932. For A Man Like Explosives , one of his first films, he conceived a series of architectural designs that were oriented towards European modernism and Frank Lloyd Wright . In the following years he worked with directors such as Raoul Walsh , Michael Curtiz and Alfred Hitchcock . In addition to the features of historical films he also designed sets for contemporary film productions that were filmed on location. For one of his last works, the western The Wild Bunch - They Didn't Know a Law by Sam Peckinpah , he designed a street in a small Texas town in 1913 and its Mexican counterpart.

Awards

For his work on Camelot - At King Arthur's Court , Carrere was awarded the Oscar in 1968 in the category Best Production Design . He was also nominated twice for the same award, in 1950 for The Love Adventures of Don Juan and in 1961 for Sunrise at Campobello .
