Edward Davies

Edward Davies (born November 1779 in Churchtown , Lancaster County , Pennsylvania , †  May 17, 1853 ) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Davies attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture and commerce. Politically, he became a member of the Anti-Masonic Party . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1834 and 1835 . In the congressional elections of 1836 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William Muhlenberg Hiester on March 4, 1837 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1841 .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Edward Davies resumed his previous activities. He died on May 17, 1853 in Churchtown, where he was also buried.
