Edward Hodges

Edward Hodges (born July 20, 1796 in Bristol , † September 1, 1867 in Clifton (Bristol) ) was an American composer and organist of English descent.

Hodges had been organist in Bristol since 1819. From 1825 he studied in Cambridge . In 1838 he became organist at Toronto Cathedral and in 1839 at St. John's Chapel in New York City . From 1846 to 1858 he was organist at Trinity Church . In 1863 he returned to England. He composed sacred works, including funeral music, a setting of Psalm 122, two anthems and several services .

Faustina Hasse Hodges , who also acted as editor of his works and wrote a biography about him, and Johann Sebastian Bach Hodges became known as composers of his children .
