Edward de Bono (born May 19, 1933 in Malta ; † June 9, 2021 ibid) was a Maltese doctor , cognitive scientist and writer .

Life

Edward de Bono studied at St Edward's College in Malta and at the city's University of Medicine and later at the University of Oxford in England psychology . He received his doctorate from Cambridge University in 1969, where he founded the Cognitive Research Trust (CoRT), one of the aims of which is to spread his teachings.

The abbreviation CoRT is used today for the CoRT program written by de Bono in 1972, which consists of six groups (CoRT 1 to CoRT 6) of 10 learning units each. According to de Bono, the CoRT program is the most widely used program in the world for teaching thinking as a skill .

Beginning of 1981 was the 13-part WDR production Thirteen times thinking, alternatively thirteen times think (based on the book The Greatest Thinkers broadcast) of the WDR in the Third Program, a year later, on Swiss television. The first part of the 7-part BBC television series De Bono's Thinking Course followed on October 27, 1982 . Both series were produced by himself.

De Bono was considered one of the leading teachers of creative thinking. He has developed a variety of techniques that are intended to help find new ideas and to break free from entrenched thought patterns. These include the concept of lateral thinking , the L-game and the creativity technique of De Bono's thinking hats .

By Stuart Crainer de Bono on business administration by focusing on so-called soft factors (soft factors') increased influence gained. The argument goes back to him that competition is no longer sufficient today, but that surpetition (the creation of value monopolies) will determine the economic life of the future.

By 2009, Edward de Bono, who coined the metaphor of the village venus effect , had published 62 books that were translated into 37 languages.

De Bono died on June 9, 2021 shortly after his 88th birthday.

The asteroid (2541) Edebono was named after him in 1996.
