Edwin Carr (composer)
Edwin Carr , MNZM (born August 10, 1926 in Auckland City , † March 27, 2003 on Waiheke Island ) was a New Zealand composer and conductor .
biography
From 1940 to 1943 Edwin Carr attended Otago Boy's High School. From 1945 to 1946 he studied first at Otago University, later at Auckland University College, where he did not achieve a degree. In 1946 he attended Cambridge's first music school, where he took composition lessons from Douglas Lilburn . In 1948 he traveled to England, where he met Geoffrey Gray . He also worked in Italy as the musical director of a ballet school. In 1958 he traveled back to New Zealand, where he taught and composed until 1960. In 1977 he traveled to Australia, where he taught at the Sydney Conservatory . In 1984 he returned to New Zealand as a freelance composer. In 1991 he moved to Waiheke Island, where he continued to be active as a composer. He died on March 27, 2003 at his home on Waiheke Island .
